Historic Renovation Continues

The renovation of the Old Courthouse in Woodstock continues. Most recently, Benson Electrical Contracting completed demolition of the famed Public House restaurant portion of the building located in the southeast corner of the lower level.

Demolition is far more than just knocking down a few walls. With this type of work, we are managing circuit removal and complex, aging electrical systems as part of the demolition process. As everything is demolished, we ensure electrical materials and other materials are disposed of properly and safely.

Every project offers a unique set of challenges that require specific solutions. The Old Courthouse is no exception. Working with the general contractor, we’ve identified those solutions through discovery, exploration of options, and ongoing discussions. Our skilled electricians have focused first and foremost on safety and the logistics around the buildings electrical systems before any demolition took place.

As we continue with this project, we remain focused on how this building is to work, both architecturally and structurally, for the planned use. Much of the beautiful, old masonry walls, chimneys, large windows, and door openings need to be saved. Meetings with the general contractor are ongoing as we design solutions that integrate modern power, security and control systems that will make each room functional for modern day use.

Because of its association with historic people and events, the Old Courthouse in Woodstock, Illinois represents a unique period in history. Benson Electrical Contracting is proud to be part of the team of contractors helping to preserve its unique architecture.
