Providing Glowing Comfort with LED Tape Lighting Installation

It was Luis Barragan that once said, “Any work of architecture that does not express serenity is a mistake.” So, it only made sense when the State’s largest natural gas distributor known for distributing comfort, focused on a comforting environment for their lobby renovation. Working under Trinidad Construction and partnering with LLI Architectural Lighting, Benson Electrical Contracting engineered the perfect lighting solution for a stunning lobby sign using LED Tape Lighting.

Planning: Planning for this project began in August 2018. Installation was completed by December 2018.

Challenges: While good lighting is essential to creating an inviting experience, without proper installation of the lights, the requested ambiance would be ruined. The goal of the sign was to make visitors feel comfortable in the space and provide enough glow to highlight the company brand…all while keeping the operational costs sensible. Due to the unique shape it was necessary to find tape light that is flexible enough to take on the shape of each of the letters – without distorting the brand. Benson Electrical Contractors was able to locate and engineer a custom LED tape light solution which guaranteed that all lights remained properly secured without diminishing the effect of the sign.

Scope: This project utilized 138’ of Zig Zag LED lighting tape. This product, offered by LLI Architectural Lighting, provides a flexible solution for creating unique interior and exterior lighting experiences. Because of their tiny size, LED lights can be aligned and configured in a variety of ways to illuminate infinite shapes of indoor and outdoor commercial signage.

Result: The project was completed on time and within budget despite additional engineering required to secure the lighting strips.

Conclusion: LEDs provide an energy efficient way to fulfill many lighting requirements. They offer lower power consumption and a high reliability rate while substantially reducing maintenance and replacement costs. Yet replacing existing legacy technologies like fluorescents, is not simply a matter of selecting LED lamps. Light is distributed differently from the wide variety of LED fixtures available. The challenge is to make choices to ensure that the lighting selected is appropriate to the tasks at hand. Benson Electrical Contracting can help!
