Schaff Piano Supply Company is the largest stocked piano supply house in the world. The company is recognized as being a leader in the piano supply trade and has been in business for over 100 years. In 2018, the Schaff Piano Supply moved to a new, state-of-the art facility and awarded Lake Zurich based Flex Construction and Crystal Lake based Benson Electrical Contracting with the opportunity to work in harmony with the company in planning and installing an eco-friendly solution to their lighting needs.

Planning: The project began in October of 2017 and was successfully completed in July of 2018.

Challenges: No surprise to most Midwestern contractors…weather. Cold temperatures slowed construction of the facilities concrete floor. However, Benson Electrical Contractors was able to utilize an all-terrain lift to ensure that installation remained on schedule.

Scope: Schaff Piano Supply Company occupies a substantial footprint – 30,000 square feet within a 44,500 square foot building. Benson Electrical Contractors completed the following:

• Lighting upgrade for 23,133 square foot warehouse/production facility
• Lighting upgrade and installation for 6,865 square foot office space
• Installation of new, ecofriendly office lighting figures that included:
  • 89 Lithonia, BLT series LED
  • 29 AcuLux Luminaire 3” square downlights
  • nLight Lighting controls
  • 6’ Winona Canoe Pendant Fixture mount
  • 56 Lithonia IBG series LED warehouse lights

Result: An energy efficient solution that now provides a brighter and better work environment with LED Lighting

Conclusion: Planning and listening is paramount in achieving project success, and it’s a skill which Benson excels at. After thoughtful planning discussions with Schaff Piano Supply Company, Benson Electrical Contracting outlined options for LED fixtures and listed the impact each fixture would have on various areas of their facility. This enabled the company to make choices to ensure that the lighting selected would be suitable to solving their needs today, and in the future.
